EN30B is a 4% nickel air/oil hardening steel. It achieves a good through hardness with high strength and toughness. It is capable of taking a good polish and is widely used as drill bit material

The mechanical properties mainly include tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, area or reduction, hardness, impact value, non-metalic inclusion etc. Different heat treatment, the mechanical properties will be different, such as normalized, tempered, QT. 6. Heat Treatment
Forging - Commence 1200ºC (2190ºF) Max.
Double Annealing - Austenitize 850ºC to 865ºC (1560ºF to 1590ºF)Quench and tempered
Machinability: Double Anneal at 635ºC to 650ºC (1175ºF to 1200ºF)Do not exceed 660ºC (1220ºF)
A Hardness of 269 HB Max is achievable
Normalize, Temper & Stress Relieve - Austenitize 850ºC to 865ºC (1560ºF to 1590ºF).Air cool to room temperature
Temper 530ºC (990ºF), air cool
Stress Relieve 500ºC (930ºF), air cool
Hardened & Tempered Austenitize 850ºC to 865ºC (1560ºF to 1590ºF) Forced air cool or oil quench. Temper at 200ºC (400ºF), air cool.
7. Delivery condition
For hot forged rolled bar, usually the delivery condition is hot forged or rolled, annealed/QT, rough turned/Black surface.
For hot forged or hot rolled bar, usually the delivery condition is hot rolled, annealed/QT, Black surface.
For hot forged plate, usually the delivery condition is hot forged, annealed/QT, milled surface/Black surface
For hot rolled plate, usually the delivery condition is hot rolled, annealed/QT, black surface.
